I traveled to Bahía de Caráquez, Ecuador with a small group of CU Boulder and UC Berkeley students. We volunteered to help rebuild homes that were destroyed in the massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake in April 2016. The homes were rebuilt using bamboo in an effort to promote sustainability and increase seismic stability, as compared to the primarily concrete homes. This effort was started by Bahia Beach Construction. Please see below if you want to learn more!

This was truly an experience of a lifetime. Stepping out of my comfort zone for a week and a half forced me to expand my horizons and gave me a renewed sense of purpose as an engineer.
